Truancy
At the Student Support Center, the overarching purpose of our truancy work is to increase the rate of attendance of chronic truants in elementary, middle and high schools by reducing the opportunities for delinquency and build positive school environments. In order to accomplish this, the Center will:
- Provide technical assistance to schools in creating legal, effective systems to manage attendance,
- Provide seminars and other trainings on the reporting requirements to enlist the aid of District agencies that provide truancy assistance
- Provide schools with a truancy reduction tool-kit that describes up to date best practices for student engagement and truancy reduction best practices,
- Provide general information and assistance by phone to address truancy questions from both school staff and parents.
